At Châteaufer | Mint Grows with Respect for Life
Organic Mint Tea , at Maison NANA1807 , is conceived as both a cultural and ecological act, embodying a worldview founded on listening, care, and peace : it can represent a gesture of peace, an offering to the Earth, and an act of gratitude towards all living things. It is in this spirit that the new Mentha M+X project was born, a pioneering initiative for the ethical and agroecological certification of Mint Tea .
A Vocation Rooted in the Lands of France
Our approach is rooted in emblematic sites of French history and biodiversity. Among them, the Chateaufer farm, located in Bruère-Allichamps , in the heart of Berry, plays a vital role. This location was not chosen at random: it is the geographical center of France, a point of natural and symbolic equilibrium.
Châteaufer Farm | 100 hectares for Committed Agriculture
Since 2015, Chateaufer has been deploying an exemplary agroecological model on nearly 100 hectares of certified organic farmland . NANA1807 mints are grown there without intensive irrigation , without chemical fertilizers or pesticides , in living soil regenerated by virtuous practices: cover crops, crop rotation, hedgerows, and the promotion of wild biodiversity.
The agroecological techniques employed respect lunar cycles , local microclimates , and traditional farming knowledge passed down through generations. Moroccan mint , ideal for brewing a tea of exceptional aromatic finesse, is among the crops grown there.
Rosières | A Living Laboratory for Organic Mint Diversity
Since 2019, in the garden of the NANA1807 Workshops located in the Rosières estate, we have been planting different varieties of organic mint. This small living laboratory notably hosts Moroccan mint, Mentha piperita (peppermint), Mentha spicata (spearmint or spearmint), Mentha citrata (bergamot mint), Mentha aquatica (water mint) and Mentha arvensis (field mint).
Visitors can discover these mint squares during the NANA1807 Workshops, held every Sunday , by reservation only. This immersive experience allows them to observe the richness of the terroirs and better understand the aromatic diversity that makes our Organic Mint Teas so special.
Cultivators of Life | The Mint Tea Farmers
We believe that the success of this model depends above all on the emergence of a new generation of growers: the Mint Tea Farmers . These are women and men who choose to cultivate mint not as a simple agricultural production, but as a way of life .
These committed producers are trained by Maison NANA1807 in agroecological practices, but also in the rituals of Moroccan Tea , the sensory knowledge of Mintéalogy , and the challenges of international solidarity .
Each Mint Tea Farmer participates in a cooperative and solidarity network, where the value created is shared equitably among all actors in the ethical tea supply chain .
Mentha M+X | An Open and Regenerative Certification
The Mentha M+X project offers a unique and voluntary agroecological certification , based on 4 fundamental pillars:
1. Total traceability | From field to cup
Every mint leaf is traced from the cultivated plot to your cup. Harvests are dated, batches analyzed, and processing methods documented. An open blockchain even allows you to check the origin of each ingredient.
2. Fair Compensation for All Links
Mint Tea Farmers, pickers, artisan dryers, blenders, packers: every player in the supply chain is fairly compensated according to the principles of fair trade .
3. Respect for Biodiversity
The cultivated areas are integrated into ecological corridors . No monoculture, no chemical weed control. Natural pollinators are protected, beneficial insects are welcomed, and the soil is permanently covered.
4. An Aesthetics of Ritual and Care
Mentha M+X is not limited to agriculture: it is a holistic vision of Organic Mint Tea as a rite of passage, of peace, and of sharing . Each infusion is a ceremony.
A Replicable Model for a Sustainable Sector
Our ambition is to make our experience with Châteaufer a model that can be replicated on a European scale. Other pilot sites are being studied to extend this dynamic in the Berry region and beyond.
Furthermore, Maison NANA1807 is engaged in promising discussions with the NGO We Speak Citizen with a view to launching a pilot initiative in one of the southern regions of Morocco to plant organic mint varieties according to the principles of Mentha M+X. This collaboration, currently being explored, aims to combine local know-how , the promotion of terroirs , and climate resilience .
