Our Moroccan Tea Story
The Promise to Mouima: A Beautiful Story of Moroccan Mint Tea
Some promises transcend time, echoing like songs of love and devotion. This is the story of Zakaria, the fifth child of Hajj Brahim, and the vow he made to his mother, Hajja Fatna, affectionately known as Mouima.
"Mouima" (in Arabic مويما) is a tender term for one's mother or grandmother, commonly used in dialectal Arabic. In classical Arabic, "Oummi" (أُمِّي) or "Mama" (ماما) is more typical.
During each visit to the family home in Berry, Zakaria would repeat to his mother:
"Mama! Your tea is so good that I'm going to sell it all over the world."
This promise, cherished for over thirty years, was deeply rooted in Zakaria's heart and passed down through the generations.
A French-Moroccan Tale
Maison NANA1807 draws its inspiration from a rich and captivating history. It all begins in Salé, Morocco, where Hajj Brahim Ibn Cherkaoui was raised. Under French protectorate until Morocco's independence in 1956, Brahim lived under France's guardianship. In 1966, he was recruited to work in France, eventually settling in the Berry region, contributing to the economic reconstruction of that era.
This is where the story of Moroccan Mint Tea in Berry begins, long before Maison NANA1807 came to life.
NÂNÂ - A Family Name with a Legacy
To obtain his first Moroccan passport, Brahim was registered under the name NÂNÂ, later changed to EN NANA, to distinguish him from the many Cherkaouis migrating at the time. This name, meaning "mint" in Arabic (نعناع), became the emblem of Maison NANA1807 and its commitment to delivering the finest Mint Tea.
The Best Moroccan Mint Tea in Berry
