Berrichon Mint Tea from Maison NANA1807

A Berry Mint Tea is not common but it is a fact, that of the Maison NANA1807 has something special. Starting with its creator, Zakaria. Listening to the one who made a promise into an exceptional Tea , is already smelling its aromas and it is also going to the olfactory encounter of two traditions. The character loves Berry as much as he loves Morocco and has managed to slip, to perfection, the two cultures into his beverage.

No tasting without sharing, no sharing without the story. Zakaria likes to tell it, especially this one. Drinking his words and listening to his Tea whispers its aromas to us, both ultimately have something captivating and invite us to travel.

What is the story behind the creation of Maison NANA1807?

Spontaneously, it is a promise made to Mom, Mouïma, for 30 years. Every time I returned to Berry, she was waiting for us with this Such wonderful mint tea that she knew how to make!

She already had an excellent reputation and was called “Madame Nânâ de Rosières” which would in a way become the House of NANA1807 .

I told her , “Mom, your Mint Tea is so good that I'm going to sell it all over the world!" and when she left (Peace to her soul), the door to Rosières closed and no more Mint Tea …

So one morning, while we were in Essaouira with the children, I woke up and said: " we are going to create a brand of Mint tea in homage to Mouïma."

At first I thought: I'm going to take some Green tea from China, Moroccan mint and make a nice packaging and that's where the problems started!

Did it take you a while?

3 years to develop the first recipe! It seemed very simple and what we didn't know was that Mom had managed to plant Moroccan mint in her garden in Berry. Berry Mint is peppery... and it took us a while to find this hybrid mint!

…and once the recipe is found?

From 2017 to 2019, we worked a bit as an amateur. We had to find suppliers, gardens that only work in an artisanal way and where the picking is done by hand, they must be, at a minimum, certified organic or biodynamic, all of this gives exceptional ingredients.

THE Teas can even be infused several times with aromas that still remain very lively!!!

What is the philosophy of Maison NANA1807?

" Mint tea for peace " we have a social and solidarity entrepreneurship approach. Return to the essentials, to nature while respecting biodiversity, bring an olfactory and taste experience in the well-being of each.

Why did you want to mix Berry with a hint of Morocco?

That's actually in our genes. We are Moroccans from Berry, it's the family story. We arrived in May 68, that's where we grew up with my brothers and sisters.

Two worlds, two cultures that blend together wonderfully. In a way, Moroccan hospitality is reborn in Berry. When we arrived in France, Mouïma didn't speak French, sharing the Mint Tea was her way of communicating, a pretext to create a bond.

What is the secret to a good Mint Tea?

Good question! Having good ingredients of course: a Quality green tea but that's not enough. You need good mint and water - water is essential - so you have to choose it well.

The final note is the love of a job well done … that’s the main thing.

Besides, that's what is indicated when you arrive in Rosières, as if... it was written.

What do you like about Berry?

Rosières and its industrial history. Berry is a place of renewal, I feel zen here.
